| Six-and-a-half Flags?

Today, my aunt and uncle both took a day off from work and brought me, my brother Peter, and my cousin Julie to Six Flags America. Despite my initial reluctance, I finally decided it was better than mindlessly watching free cable TV all day (which I had been doing nonstop for several days now). However, I had never been impressed with amusement parks, and besides the small Ferris wheels and kiddy rides at the county fair, I had never ridden a real roller coaster — before today, that is.

For those who are unfamiliar with my cousin Julie, she’s a talkative seven-year-old with a fervent fascination with small, exotic rodents (I cringe every time she employs the “Death Squeeze” on my hamster), and spent most of the time today insisting, “I want to sit with Jennifer Jie Jie!”

A snippet from our interesting conversation on the car ride to Six Flags:

Julie: Why is it called “Six Flags”? Why “Six”?
Peter: Hmmm… I should create a park called “Seven Flags”…
Me: Or “Two Flags”…
Julie: “Zero Flags”? Or how about “Six-and-a-half Flags”?

…and on the way back…

Julie: Did you say “Apple Land”?
Peter and I: “Apple Land”?

| My ever-absent doorknob

I was struggling through the painfully laborious process of tidying up my room several days ago, and I came across a very cool “STOP” sign (embellished with fish designs and emblazoned with the word “Aquarium”) that you could hang on your doorknob. With a feeling of great elation at discovering this newfound treasure, I turned around to put it on my doorknob, and then realized… I have no doorknob.

Why? A little more than a year ago, my mother became extremely incensed when I locked myself in my room for the umpteenth time, brought out the mini-screwdrivers, and after brandishing them in my face for several hours, proceeded to disassemble my doorknob. A while later, I also lost my entire door to her ravages… but fortunately my father secretly reinstalled it onto my door frame last summer.

So I just taped the sign onto the door instead.

But, on a happier note, I am currently living with my aunt and uncle in Baltimore, Maryland. My parents are in China at the moment and my father promised to purchase a Jay Chou CD for me. ^_^
