Gackt-sama! This is perhaps the only time I’ll ever admit such a thing, but… I’m completely enamored with him!

Gackt Gackt

In case you were wondering, Camui M. S. Gackt is a talented J-rocker from Japan. He sings, plays several different instruments, writes his own lyrics, and I also believe composes his own music. He is currently a popular entertainer and has a vast following from many different parts of the world. And if I remember correctly, he can also speak English and French with varying degrees of fluency… apart from his native Japanese, of course.

I still don’t quite know how I’ve become infatuated with him, since I’m normally not a huge fan of rock, but I suppose some of Gackt-san’s appeal (besides his androgynous good looks and his elaborate costumes) comes from his mysterious origins… apparently, Gackt has never disclosed his real name or age and claims to be a vampire born somewhere around 1540. He says he gained psychic powers after a near-fatal accident in his childhood and used to be possessed by spirits, and consequently, does not wish to have children so these paranormal abilities would not be passed to them.

Naturally, my admiration for him increased considerably after hearing this. Long live Lord Gackt!

Maximum Ride

WARNING: If you dare to read this story, you become part of the Experiment. I know that sounds a little mysterious - but it’s all I can say right now. — Max.

That is the cryptic warning a certain heroine named Maximum Ride gives right before the opening chapter of James Patterson’s novel, Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment. But the intrigue doesn’t end there. In fact, the novel proved so engrossing that after stealing this book from my brother (ahem), I flipped to a random page in the middle, began reading, and couldn’t stop until I reached the back cover. Which is really something, since 1) I don’t usually begin reading a book from the middle unless I think it’s worthless, 2) this novel is written for middle schoolers, whereas I’m already a high school sophomore, and 3) I loved it so much, now I’m reading the first half.

| Hikki’s new treasure

I’ve just returned home from Baltimore, Maryland several days ago. I’m glad to be back, but I miss the DSL connection at my aunt’s… dial-up is such a pain.

Anyways, I’ve just finished listening to Japanese singer/songwriter Hikaru Utada’s newest album, ULTRA BLUE.

| Captain Jack is back!

Aiiiiieeeeeeeeee! Today, I went to see the second Pirates of the Caribbean movie, Dead Man’s Chest!

A three-way swordfight between Jack, Will, and Norrington

It was me, Uncle, Auntie, my cousin Julie, my brother Peter, and Grandma (who can only speak Chinese), in the last row of the jam-packed theater. We had hurriedly crammed ourselves into our minivan to arrive at the theater thirty minutes early, when all of the choicest seats were ripe for the picking. ^_^

What follows are my thoughts about the movie, so do not follow the jump link unless you can tolerate spoilers.

| Can’t sleep, can eat, I’m sick of loafing around

Happy Fourth of July, everyone! (By “everyone”, I merely meant the lucky stranger reading this who had the unexpected fortune to stumble across this blog…)

Due to our American Independence Day holiday, Auntie, Uncle, and Julie stayed home today. (Usually Auntie works as an accountant weekdays, Uncle owns a restaurant, and Julie goes to a summer camp most of the week.) Julie just about drove me nuts in the morning, causing me to relinquish control of the keyboard and my sanity on more than one occasion. But we did have a cook-out complete with grill, BBQ, and buttered toast, so that was good. ^_^

So far, I already read two of the three books that I was required to read for school this summer, but I was too lazy to even make a start on the packet that accompanies the reading. Yes, I’m a rotten procrastinator… but I absolutely despise answering questions and taking notes on every single chapter of a novel. It completely spoils the experience.

Other than that, I’ve noticed recently that I’m becoming something of an insomniac again, lying awake at night for what seems like eternity and counting sheep, etc. While purchasing a swim suit today, I also discovered that constantly being plied with desserts and second helpings by my relatives was beginning to take its toll. T_T I’m also tired of watching the Disney Channel all day with Julie. Life is becoming unbearably ho-hum.

I saw Japanese singer Namie Amuro’s new PV, called “CAN’T SLEEP, CAN’T EAT, I’M SICK.” Although I’m not at all into her brand of R&B, I found the music very catchy and the dance moves extremely impressive.
