4 Apr 2009 | There and back again
Back in New York for another college open house. This time in the former industrial city of Troy. I'm tired now. The Pacifier is such a trite movie.
Did you know that Troy was settled by Dutch colonists? I never knew that. Also, the famous American writer Herman Melville apparently used to live there. I read "Bartleby the Scrivener" in my eleventh grade English class. It was taught by a witch.
All this constant back and forth (this time, a delightful two-way trip of sixteen hours) along the same stretch of highway is getting a bit tiresome. Thankfully, there was a lovely Indian restaurant (with an entire page full of vegetarian cuisine — the most I've seen from a menu in ages) waiting for us at the end. We forgot to bring the camera; otherwise, I'd take pictures of that double-sided service plaza called Angola in New York.
And it rained steadily for most of the day. I like rain.
I need to buy a smoothie on the way back.
Update: Dude, my suspicions were confirmed. Rensselaer is a Dutch name.
Silly Korean ninjas.

Troy is a nice name for a city.
It's nice of your dad to drive you 16 hours. It's difficult for me to convince my parents to drive anywhere six hours away. :(
I like rain, too. And smoothies. :D

Yeah, my dad is awesome. I was just thinking that I'd better learn to drive now, since my dad can't do it forever, and I'd like to take him places in the future.

(I'm going to comment here, since you'll likely not get this from my soon-to-be defunct blog).
Just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking about using one of the free hosts in your list. :D

Oh! If that's the case, did you notice that I added some new hosts to my list? You should check them out. One of them includes a host that offers "pay as you go" hosting, which is extremely cheap for personal blogs (27 percent of the customers during the month of July 2008 incurred no costs)! If you still want free hosting, however, I did add one new free host. Here's the link to the complete article.
Oh, and I'm just curious, but how's your college search process going? Have you made a decision yet?

Amy says:
Thanks for the link! ^_^ Yeah, I'd rather forsake the "pay as you go" for "pay never," because there is simply no way I could pay if I did incur costs. :( I was leaning towards HelioHost, but they're not allowing sign ups right now, so I'll probably go with ByetHost.
Ah, I got into my first choice school, so I was pretty
much sold from the moment I saw "Congratulations." XP
I haven't told them I'm going, yet, because I just think it'll be rude
to the other schools (not that I got into many X_X) if I didn't consider
them more. So I will be busy making spontaneous college visits this week and maybe blog about it later?

Which school is that? Not the University of Pennsylvania? o___O
Oh yeah, and just so you know, Byet has a 30-day inactivity limit (your account might be suspended if you don't log in for thirty days).

No, I am definitely fond of Penn, but it was never my first choice school (it's complicated, I'll blog about it later maybe). It was one of the most convenient to visit, though, besides College Park. XP Plus they rejected me.
I don't really want to say which school I'm going to until I tell them I'm going first. :P I really don't want to make a big deal out of it, it's just, I'd feel bad if I don't consider the other schools more.
Plus, you haven't told me where you're going. :D

Fine. I'm going to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. And I say that with approximately 95 percent certainty.
Your turn!
