21 Jul 2006 | Hikki’s new treasure
I’ve just returned home from Baltimore, Maryland several days ago. I’m glad to be back, but I miss the DSL connection at my aunt’s… dial-up is such a pain.
Anyways, I’ve just finished listening to Japanese singer/songwriter Hikaru Utada’s newest album, ULTRA BLUE.

ULTRA BLUE — track listing
- This Is Love
- Keep Tryin’
- BLUE
- 日曜の朝 (Nichiyo no Asa/Sunday Morning)
- Making Love
- 誰かの願いが叶うころ (Dareka no Negai ga Kanaukoro/When Someone’s Wish Comes True)
- COLORS
- One Night Magic feat. Yamada Masashi
- 海路 (Kairo/Sea Route)
- WINGS
- Be My Last
- Eclipse (Interlude)
- Passion
This is reportedly the first album Hikki has released after a four-year hiatus, and I’ve heard that it’s also a little different (more soothing) than her previous work. Actually, ULTRA BLUE is the first full Hikaru Utada album I’ve ever listened to, so I can’t vouch for that, but I do know it’s GREAT!
A couple of her earlier singles are also featured in this album, including CASSHERN theme song “Dareka no Negai ga Kanaukoro,” “COLORS,” and the theme song for video game Kingdom Hearts 2, “Passion.” But the real prize here is “BLUE,” a very beautiful and melodic piece showcasing Hikki’s incredible singing talent. Some of my other favorites are “This Is Love,” “Keep Tryin’,” and “Nichiyo no Asa.”
Without a doubt, ULTRA BLUE is a treasure and a must-buy for all Hikki fans. I’ll certainly be keeping my eyes peeled for any ULTRA BLUE music videos from now on, as well as any future releases from Hikaru Utada.
[Edit (6/19/2008)] Geesh, don’t I sound like a complete n00b? Very old post. Anyway, ULTRA BLUE really is her best work so far. And I speak with HEART STATION in mind. [/Edit]
